What You Can And Cannot Put In Dumpsters For Rent
Renting a dumpster is the easiest way to get rid of a lot of junk and throw out a lot of garbage. From house clean-outs to massive remodeling projects, dumpsters for rent can handle the cleanup work. However, you should know that there are several things you can and cannot put in your rental dumpster.
What You Can Put in Your Rented Dumpster
Absolute garbage, the stuff that cannot be recycled or reused for anything because it is rotten, covered in mold, etc., is allowed. Roofing and construction materials such as fasteners, wood scraps, shingles (old and new), siding, metal trim, broken glass and broken windows, and yes, even doors can go in a dumpster. Unless you have state and local statutes against insulation going in the garbage, scraps from rolled insulation or sprayed, loose insulation can go in there, too. Broken furniture, broken possessions, old books, cardboard recycling, plastics recycling, and aluminum and metal recycling can go into a dumpster, but it is smarter to get separate dumpsters for each of these recyclable products.
What You Cannot Put in Your Rented Dumpster
A good bit of common sense goes a long way when you stop to consider what you cannot put in a dumpster. Dumpster rentals belong to someone else, but if a dumpster belonged to you and someone else wanted to borrow it, can you think of things you would not want them to throw into your dumpster? The same thought process exists for what you can and cannot throw in a dumpster you rent.
That said, anything combustible or explosive is a no-go. Anything that can easily burst into flames does not go into the dumpster, either. Items with an excess of foul liquids, such as the drainings from grease traps or from a septic system, do not go in the dumpster. Medical waste, anything saturated with blood, feces, or sexual fluids, and any sharp objects such as needles or razor blades with blood on them do not go in the dumpster. All of these items have their own special rules about disposal and where they may be disposed of properly.
If You Are Not Sure, Ask the Dumpster Rental Company
Most dumpster rental companies have their own lists of rules for what you can and cannot put into their dumpsters. It may be in the contract you sign when you ask to rent a dumpster. If the lists are not in the contract, and you are not sure if you can put something specific into the dumpster, call and ask the company.
